There are a number of ways to get involved at Emanuel. The primary way to do this is to join (or found) a volunteer committee or to join the Board of Directors. They help contribute to the operations of the Co-op and keep the community active and engaged! Committees usually meet on a monthly basis.

 

Each committee has their own special focus and goals for the community:

Social  Committee

The Social Committee organizes social gatherings in the co-op. They plan events around special occasions such as Halloween and Christmas parties for the kids. They also organize events throughout the year such as movie nights.

Landscape Committee

The Landscape Committee assists in the upkeep of the co-op's common areas.  They accomplish this in a variety of ways ie. planting trees and flower gardens, organizing our semi-annual clean up days and maintaining the grounds in between landscaping company visits. 

Much like the maintenance committee, they are not the sole "keepers" of the co-op as each member has made a commitment to maintain each of their units, inside and out.
 

How Much Volunteer Time Is Required?

We understand each member of Emanuel is an individual and in some cases may find it difficult to volunteer on a consistent basis with any one committee. We try to make the volunteer system as flexible as possible for everyone.

Volunteering within the Co-op is part of each member's commitment to Emanuel and is mandatory.

However, if you are not able to regularly volunteer on a committee, there are other ways to stay involved. The following partial list may help:
 

• Delivering notices for the office co-ordinator.

• Assist with garden watering & up keep.

• Cleaning the co-op office and Community Centre.

• Annual General Meetings are held in May each year.

• General Member's Meetings are held periodically throughout the year, as needed.

• Board of Directors meet once per month on Thursday evenings. The meetings are open to any member who wishes to attend (with the exception of an "in camera" session which is confidential and only open to Board members.
